Leaving Leute

The semester is at its end, and people around me are already leaving. It's really sad, and I will miss you all soooooooooo much. Daniel left this morning, and he has been here both semesters with me and been one of my best friends. Me and some other people helped him with all his stuff to the train. Not sure how he will make it all the way home with that big bike box! Good thing he has Molly and Hector to help him to the airport in Frankfurt.

Daniel, I will miss you lots and lots (du fehlst mir schon!!). I've learned so much about bikes and cameras from you, things I never thought I'd know! Keep riding that Atlantis (I want to see it in Sweden soon)!

Going to Rome

Me and Machiotto by the Fontana di Trevi
Yeah, I went to Rome. Met up with ol' friend Otto aus Suomi in a crazy hot Italy. Wednesday to Sunday last week.

I flew in Wednesday evening, and that night was all about getting to the hostel and then to find some food. The hostel was just next to the Vatican, and we could almost wave to pope Ben from our window (if it had been on the other side of the house). Tiny, tiny, really hard beds, but when you've been travelling all day, it was heaven.

Thursday we went down town to do some sightseeing. We just walked around for a bit (the finnish army doesn't really believe in maps...) and we managed to kinda come across almost everything we wanted to see. Pantheon, Fontana di Trevi, the spanish steps, the Colosseum (hur stavas det egentligen på engelska?!) and all that stuff. This city is really beautiful (and old!!). We tried multiple times to get into the Vatican, but the line to the museum was always waaaaaaaaaaaay to long to even concider getting in in thease temperatures. Maybe if it was a bit cooler, but we decided that it was enough to see the walls from the outside.

Friday we discovered was some kind of religious holiday in Italy, so everything was closed. We had planned a day at the beach, and this was the perfect opportunity. So we took the S-bahn there, and enjoyed a whole day of sun and sea. Wonderful. The tan/burn I got was not as wonderful. Now it is, but I needed quite a lot of after sun lotion. All over me. Even our dinner waiter that night told me "you are very very tanned". And then he called me "tanned lady" to the couple at the next table (he should see me now!!).

We shopped for nine hours saturday. At noon it was 35 degrees, and in the afternoon 42. Quite hot. When you stayed in the shade it wasn't really a problem, but the sun was terrible!! We just spent as much time as possible in the air conditioned stores. I got a pair of shoes, some make-up (yes they have Sephora in Rome!!) and some other small things. None of the things that I was really looking for.

I had to leave sunday, but Schmotto stayed on his own until monday (hope you got home allright!). The flight was no problem, but the trainride back to Reutlingen from the Baden-baden airport was awful. I landed at 16.55 and didn't reach Pestalozzistrasse until after 23 at night! Lots of waiting and slow trains. Blä!
